A Somewhat Brief Appreciation Of Pretzels

“I wake up every morning in a bed that’s too small, driving my daughter to a school that’s too expensive, and then I go to work to a job for which I get paid too little. But on Pretzel Day? Well, I like Pretzel Day!” These wise words of Stanley Hudson from The Office. I relate to this quote quite a bit. Pretzels are some of my favorite treats for some special reasons.

Pretzels were invented by European monks during the sixth or seventh century. The snack was made to represent the Holy Trinity. However, that’s just one theory. Another theory is that pretzels are a product of southern Germany as a form of twisted and salted bread. As time went on, it became popular in German culture. I am of German descent on my mom’s side, and I adore the country’s pretzels.

In 2008, I had a pretzel at the Munich Airport. It was delicious! It was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. German pretzels are amazing in my opinion. It absolutely makes me feel connected to my maternal ancestors. Although I anticipate it will be several years before I return to Germany, I intend on enjoying another pretzel at the airport. In addition, I would love to try pretzels from various vendors.

Pretzels are also a wonderful ballpark treat! There are three different options for pretzels at Coors Field: kids’ pretzels, Bavarian pretzels, and cinnamon sugar pretzels. It’s a trifecta of delicious food! Currently, my sister and I are earning a trip to Seattle to watch the Seattle Mariners at their home ballpark, T-Mobile Park. There are two places to get pretzels there, and I love pretzels so much that I will be willing to get the snack from both vendor locations.

Each summer, the farmers’ market comes to my hometown. Whenever I am there, I always love to visit the pretzel vendor. In fact, the pretzel vendor is the main reason I go to the farmers’ market. Their pretzels are phenomenal and deserve a food group.

I live within a walking distance of a shopping mall, and there is an Auntie Anne’s pretzel stand there. Whenever I walk to the mall, I always make it a point to stop by the stand. Their treats are amazing and there is always an amazing selection, at least from my perspective.

From pepperoni pretzels to pretzel dogs, pretzel nuggets to sweet almond pretzels, their soft pretzels make my day! In fact, I intend on treating myself to a sweet almond pretzel to celebrate Pretzel Day.

QuikTrip, a gas station company that I love visiting, also has pretzels. They have original pretzels, cinnamon sugar pretzels, and Parmesan pretzels! I recommend the Parmesan ones. They are so tasty and savory in my opinion. Plus, they are so awesome with marinara sauce for dipping!

Cinnamon sugar pretzels are my favorite variety. I have a sweet tooth over 100 times the size of the planet of Jupiter. It’s a great occasional treat to satisfy my love of treats and enjoy a beloved snack. In addition, I love the cinnamon goodness as it melts into the pretzel! Fantastic dessert and snack from my viewpoint. I also love traditional pretzels for cultural and ancestral reasons. I would love to make homemade pretzels. I want to experiment topping them with oats, vanilla sugar, and chocolate chips.

Pretzels are love, pretzels are life. Happy Pretzel Day!
