30 Walk Up Songs For 30 MLB Teams

Springtime means one of my favorite days of the year: Major League Baseball Opening Day! One of my favorite parts of the sport is learning about the walk-up songs of each player and learning about the types of music they enjoy listening to. I have decided to make a list of walk-up songs for each Major League Baseball team, based on the songs I love, songs I have as traditions in my mind, and musicians from the state the teams come from.

  1. Sweet Child O’ Mine – Guns N Roses (Colorado Rockies). I have decided to make Sweet Child O’ Mine to be my figurative Rockies walk up song every year from here on out. The opening instrumental to that song opens the door to me being in an extremely eager mood. In addition, I associate it with positivity since I heard it at a Denver Nuggets game where the team came back to win, and I associate that song with the Nuggets winning the NBA Finals. For that reason, the song is one of my favorites, and one that I believe deserves to be a tradition in my mind.
  2. See The Light – Green Day (Oakland Athletics). Green Day, my absolute favorite punk rock band, are from Oakland. For the past several years, See The Light, one of three songs tied for first place as my favorite Green Day song (the others are Last Of The American Girls and Still Breathing), has been my walk-up song for the team for cultural reasons. Although they will be relocating to Las Vegas in the future, I will always have See The Light as my walk-up song for the team.
  3. California Love – Tupac Shakur (San Francisco Giants). The dearly departed Tupac Shakur had his career start in Northern California, specifically the Bay Area after having moved there in the late 1980s. As a result, I believe that California Love would be absolutely ideal for San Francisco, not just because of Tupac’s origins there, but also because I feel as if it would fit the diverse musical culture of the area as well.
  4. Heads Carolina, Tails California – Jo Dee Messina (Boston Red Sox). Jo Dee Messina is a native of the Boston area. In addition, one of the lyrics of this very fun-to-listen-to song is, “I’ve got people in Boston, ain’t your daddy still in Des Moines?” For these two reasons, I believe that Heads Carolina, Tails California would be appropriate for the Boston baseball team.
  5. Peaches – Jack Black (Atlanta Braves). The Atlanta Braves are a team that I want good things for, and I was happy when they won the World Series in 2021 because I knew that I felt that the team deserved a title. In addition, Peaches is a song that I listen to frequently since I work as a pediatric mental health technician. To complete the trifecta, Georgia is known as the Peach State, making Peaches the perfect walk-up song.
  6. Lose Yourself – Eminem (Detroit Tigers). Eminem, a Michigander, is a major symbol of Detroit’s music culture. Not only is he prominent in the music industry, but he is a supporter of Detroit sports, such as the Tigers and the Lions of the NFL. In my opinion, that is reason enough to make one of his songs a Tigers walk-up song.

  1. Single Ladies – Beyoncé (Houston Astros). Beyoncé is a music icon not just for Houston, but in the world. I have loved Single Ladies since I was twelve years old and have since begun choreographing a dance for this song in my head. I believe that Minute Maid Park, the home of the Astros, would be a wonderful place to pay tribute to the beloved singer in walk-up song form.
  2. Empire State Of Mind – Jay Z (New York Yankees). Not only is Jay-Z, someone who I call Mr. Beyoncé in my head since he is Beyoncé’s husband, a native of Brooklyn, but one of the lyrics of the song is, “Catch me with the O.G. at a Yankee game.” Consequently, I see this song as a perfect way to fuse New York Yankees culture with New York City music culture.
  3. Hero – Foo Fighters (Seattle Mariners). At first, I was surprised to learn that Foo Fighters were from Seattle, because for reasons I am still working to figure out, I was under the impression they are from California. Nevertheless, in addition to their Seattle roots, there are two other reasons this song would be perfect for my figurative Mariners walk-up song. First things first, I am on a major Foo Fighters kick right now, listening to as much of their music as possible in anticipation of a concert near me in the summer. Second things second, the city of Seattle means a lot to me since I have family ties to the Seattle suburbs.
  4. The Rock Show – Blink-182 (San Diego Padres). Blink-182, one of my favorite punk rock groups, originated from San Diego. I have heard that people have encountered Tom DeLonge, co-frontman and guitarist (on whom I have a massive crush, but I digress) at the Padres’ home ballpark, Petco Park. I believe that The Rock Show is a perfect figurative walk-up song for this pair of reasons.
  5. Pieces Of Me – Ashlee Simpson (Texas Rangers). Ashlee, the younger sister of Jessica Simpson, is a native of Waco, situated halfway between Dallas and Austin. For the longest time I have had Pieces Of Me stuck in my head. Also, Dallas seems like a very culturally diverse city when it comes to music, which makes the song a very appropriate Rangers walk up song choice.
  6. Summer Of ‘69 – Bryan Adams (Toronto Blue Jays). I love this song so very much, if I could get paid to listen to it on repeat, I would happily take on the opportunity. Since Mr. Adams is from Canada, I feel as if this song would be more than appropriate as a walk up song for the Blue Jays. Also, I can visualize people singing along to this song at the ballpark and hearing them enjoy themselves more than they have ever enjoyed themselves.

  1. My Songs Know What You Did In The Dark – Fall Out Boy (Chicago Cubs). This song is what got me into enjoying Fall Out Boy’s music. What makes me want to choose this as my Cubs walk up song the most is just how much the group enjoys the Chicago Cubs. In the past, they have made appearances at Wrigley Field, and member Patrick Stump even made an appearance at the World Series in 2016 to sing the national anthem. A combination of the group being from Chicago and them adoring the team makes their music perfect for Cubs walk-up songs, at least from my perspective.
  2. Handsome- Chance The Rapper (Chicago White Sox). Chance is another musician from Chicago. Although I haven’t heard his music yet, I would love to give it a try and expand my rap music palate. I find his music to be a wonderful choice for White Sox walk-up songs due to his Windy City roots and the Chicago music culture.
  3. Day N Night – Kid Cudi (Cleveland Guardians). I view Cleveland as yet another city with a very diverse music culture. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Kid Cudi is a native of Cleveland, and I would love to explore his music more. I have heard his voice on the song Memories, which was recorded along with French DJ David Guetta. Day N Night is one of his most beloved songs, so I find it to be extremely fitting for the Guardians. As much as I would love to have it interchange with Cleveland Rocks, since the latter is the team’s home game victory song, I would love to respect the Guardians’ victory tradition by letting them save that song for those purposes.
  4. Cigarette Daydreams – Cage The Elephant (Cincinnati Reds). Although the group is based in Great Britain now, Cage The Elephant originated in Bowling Green, Kentucky, a neighbor of Ohio’s. Whenever I listen to the opening instrumental of Cigarette Daydreams, I get a calmed, relaxed, happy feeling. I would love for the fans to experience calm happiness at the ball game.
  5. Beverly Hills – Weezer (Los Angeles Angels). Arguably one of the most iconic Weezer songs, I feel as this would absolutely fit in fantastically with the culture of Anaheim. Southern California is an entertainment mecca, from the Hollywood area to Disneyland. Since I interpret the lyrics as the perspective of a person who admires the lifestyles of those in the entertainment industry, I feel like this would be a great fit for an Angels walk-up song.
  6. Fire Meet Gasoline – Sia (Miami Marlins). Another walk-up song that will morph into another walk-up song tradition. I remember in the past that I wanted to make my figurative walk-up songs for the Marlins to be Sia songs. Since Fire Meet Gasoline is my favorite Sia song, and the Marlins have a special place in my heart for winning the World Series the year I was born, I have decided that Fire Meet Gasoline deserves to be my figurative walk up song for the Marlins from here on out.

  1. Barefoot Blue Jean Night – Jake Owen (Tampa Bay Rays). Barefoot Blue Jean Night is one of my favorite Jake Owen songs of all time. Also, Jake is a Floridian, with his hometown being in the Tampa area. Since I have been a Rays supporter since I was in the sixth grade, I feel that it is beyond appropriate to make my figurative walk up song be one of my favorite songs.
  2. Memory Lane – Old Dominion (Philadelphia Phillies). There are three big reasons why I would like Memory Lane to be my figurative Phillies walk-up song. Reason number one, Memory Lane is one of my favorite songs right now. I cannot get enough of the opening instrumental, and I have been listening to the song on an extremely frequent basis. Reason number two, Philadelphia is another city that means quite a bit to me. My dad and his older siblings were all born in suburban Philadelphia, and I’m quite happy to have Philly roots. Reason number three, it’s out of superstition. I have been noticing that the team has had good karma when I have used country songs as my figurative walk-up songs, so I want to keep bringing in the good karma.
  3. Crab Rave – Noisetrom (Baltimore Orioles). This will be a traditional walk-up song from here on out, in addition to some others. Baltimore is known very well for its crab cakes, therefore, Crab Rave would be extremely fitting for this team, in my opinion. Also, I imagine people dancing their hearts out to this song, which is happiness-inducing to think about knowing that I love it when people have a great time at the ball game.
  4. Blinding Lights – All Time Low (Washington Nationals). Although All Time Low are Baltimore based, I still believe this song would fit very appropriately with D.C. culture. Both of my siblings went to D.C. in the past, and they have described it as an extremely culturally fascinating city. I like to imagine that it’s full of colorful lights, especially the entertainment venues in the metropolitan area. Additionally, as much as I adore the original version of the song by The Weeknd, I enjoy All Time Low’s cover of the song a bit more.
  5. Celebrity Skin – Hole (Milwaukee Brewers). Milwaukee seems like such a fascinating city. I would love to experience the culture of the city, as well as Wisconsin as a whole. I find Celebrity Skin to be a very fun-to-listen-to song, as I have been listening to it extremely frequently for the past five years. I like to think that Celebrity Skin would be a wonderful way to get me into the mood to have fun in Wisconsin, which in turn makes me want to make it my figurative walk-up song for the Brewers.
  6. Closing Time – Semisonic (Minnesota Twins). This is an incredibly catchy song, and I was very surprised to hear that Semisonic were from Minnesota. I love imagining the crowd pretending to play the piano during the opening instrumental. That is enough motivation for me to make this my figurative walk-up song for the Twins.

  1. Just A Dream – Nelly (Saint Louis Cardinals). Nelly, a Saint Louis based rapper, has shown his love for the team on multiple occasions in the past. Just A Dream is the song that introduced me to Nelly’s music, and I have enjoyed it ever since. I love the idea of combining my love of Nelly’s music and his love of his hometown sports team with this song.
  2. Suds In The Bucket – Sara Evans (Kansas City Royals). Since Ms. Evans is from Missouri, I feel as if it would be appropriate to have one of her songs be my figurative walk-up song for Kansas City. Suds In The Bucket is one of her most beloved songs, and it’s one that I myself enjoy very much. Thinking about the people who would enjoy hearing the song as one walks up to bat also fuels my desire to walk up to this tune.
  3. Anti-Hero – Taylor Swift (Pittsburgh Pirates). Thanks to one of my dearest friends in high school, I have become a Pirates fan. Right now, Anti-Hero is my favorite Taylor Swift song, and I have enjoyed Taylor’s music since I was in elementary school. I would love to combine my love of the song and love of the team by walking up to the plate with this tune playing.
  4. Living – Dierks Bentley (Arizona Diamondbacks). This is a song that has been playing in my head for as long as I can remember. I absolutely adore Dierks Bentley and his music. Also, since he is a native of Arizona, I find it a wonderful idea to have a song of his be the one that I walk up to at Chase Field. It will be a fun song to fill the ballpark air.
  5. Disco Inferno – 50 Cent (New York Mets). Not only is 50 Cent a native of New York City, he is a native of Queens, the same borough where the New York Mets’ home stadium, Citi Field, is located. I would love to hear the crowd enjoy themselves as the song fills the stadium air, knowing that a hometown musician’s work is being appreciated in this way. I am also interested in expanding my music taste by listening to 50 Cent. I have a feeling that I will enjoy his work.
  6. Straight Outta Compton – Ice Cube (Los Angeles Dodgers). Straight Outta Compton isn’t just the title of a movie, it’s a song as well. At first, I thought it was a song just for the movie, but to my surprise, Ice Cube’s song is over thirty years old, something that tells me that his music stands the test of time. Since he is a Los Angeles native and I see Los Angeles as a city that enjoys a wide variety of music genres, Ice Cube’s work would fit well in the environment, at least from my perspective.
